Super Producer Kus Ma Releases Mixtape

Renowned 22-year-old producer, Kus Ma is the force behind Camp Mulla’s productions including their debut album “Funky Town”. Now, he’s dropping his solo mixtape, “J’s & Purple”; a perfect mix for those who like the light touch party hip hop music. Lyrically, he sticks to what’s most important to him; the party paradise with lots of rolling around, party anthems, flashy club entrances and memorable great nights out.

Kus Ma has invited a few of his artist friends to join him on collaborations like “How High” that features the U.S. bred Kenyan rapper and self-crowned Afrikan King, Kanja. A man that usually does justice to any verse he spits. This is no exception. The track samples “Money, Clothes and H***s all a Ni*** knows”, a line off Notorious BIG’s major hit “Big Poppa”, giving it a familiar head bobbing feel.

Kus Ma brings in fellow rappers from Camp Mulla in this project too. “Zone Out” featuring Thee MC Africa is a dopey-induced driving to the party anthem, with vocal backup by newcomer Bev. Shappaman brings out the mixtape’s stand out track in “Tutti Frutti”. To finish off, “On the Floor” featuring Tiri will get you on your feet. The song starts with a clever sample of the late Little Richard classic and is a straight up tape deck winner.

Camp Mulla’s musical swag is synonymous with Kus Ma’s production style. A style that lead them to be East Africa’s first group to be nominated for BET’s Best International Act: Africa (2012) award. The mixtape brings out Camp Mulla’s signature bubbly-gummy, feel good and colorful party sound. It’s a great start for Kus Ma’s concentration on rap and a great show of his skills on outstanding productions. However, don’t expect too much experimentation; he sticks to what he knows best and what has worked in the past. It will be great to see how the world will receive the mixtape.
