Tech Start-ups to Watch in 2014 - Spatial Collective
What: Spatial Collective is another company dealing in data. They create and collect data using mobile phones, GPS devices, field surveying techniques, Android data collection tools such as OpenDataKit, and sometimes through paper and pens and face-to-face interviews. They have used this to help organizations provide better water and sanitation in Kibera, for crime and violence prevention in Korogocho, and to help social entrepreneurs optimize their businesses in the informal settlement. Thier client list includes Plan International, Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, the World Bank and the Kounkuey Design Initiative.
Who: Funded by Primoz Kovacic and Jamie Lundine they now have a team of 13 dedicated employees. Unique selling point: They often channel their profits back into community projects that allow them to experiment with new technology applications and community engagement methods.
Scalability: The company has tapped into the rising market of social entrepreneurship and is harnessing technology to improve the products and services of the large NGOs and foundations. Nough said.
Revenue: Spatial Collection is a consulting company.
