The Huawei Media Pad 10 Link
First off, I gotta confess that I’m rather fond of this media pad. It came to me in the loveliest way. Delivered to my workplace, set up and tested for me by a perfect gentleman. The 10.1” pad comes with Android 4.1.2, 1.4GHz processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.
The Huawei-Apple Connection
One of the first descriptions I heard about this media pad before I ever saw it was that it looks like an iPad. And when I saw it I gotta say, the resemblance is uncanny. Huawei, like Tecno, is another Chinese company that is fighting the automatic association of all Chinese devices with counterfeit. They are making strides, if you ask me.
What’s to love?
Design
The media pad has a sleek silver faux-metal exterior with white trimming all round, very much like an iPad. It comes with a protective magnetic cover (../../kinda%20like%20the%20iPad.jpg). It comes in different colors, mine is navy blue (which is a great color if you never want yours to look dirty).
Sim Card
The mini SIM slot is the epitome of convenience in a tablet. You can connect on the go and it switch to WiFi when you get to a hotspot, which is perfect for taking it on the road.
Performance
Smooth would be the word. The 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and the 2GB RAM deliver as promised. I observed no lag at all despite running several apps – including my favorite resource-heavy go-to app, Skype. Video playback is very smooth. There are no lags even when playing files in full HD. Gamers will enjoy this feature.
Battery
The battery life is amazing. I counted five days when it was mostly idle, and two days if it was used for surfing and reading, which makes it the perfect travelling device.
Sound
This pad has very clear loud sound. It makes use of Dolby Digital Plus sound enhancement. I enjoyed playing music on this device even when I had no backup speakers. It also has a standard 3.5mm jack.
What could be better?
Weight
The tab is rather heavy at 580g. It can be quite a draw back to carry around all the time.
Camera
While tablets are not primarily built for taking pictures, it wouldn’t hurt to install a higher resolution camera and a flash. However, in terms of performance, the photos taken by the 3.0MP back camera and the 0.3MP front camera are pretty impressive (in good light, of course).

7 Things you never knew you could do with your iPad
1. If you put your phone on airplane mode, it will charge twice as fast.
2. Use your iPad as a media remote. As long as the devices are on the same WiFi network, you can control your computer or other Airplay device for music and videos.
3. Access your laptop from anywhere in the world using the iTeleport app; start or stop downloads and even email yourself files you need.
4. Eliminate ‘selfie arm’ by taking a selfie using your earbuds. Click the volume + button on the remote on your Apple or Apple compatible earbuds while in camera mode, click and shoot, or the middle button (play/pause) while in video mode.
5. Make use of offline Google Maps when travelling. In the search bar, type ‘ok maps’ and the map will be cached for offline use.
6. Make typing more comfortable by switching your keyboard to thumb mode to type the same way you would your iPhone.
7. Capture your screen on to your photo library. Simply hold down both the Home and Sleep button at the same time.
