Top 5 Illustrators
Nairobi is growing into such an artsy city, everyday with a greater intensity than the previous one. It is with this in mind that we figured it was about time we let you in on which illustrators are currently making waves in this town.
This young man is relentless in his work. His illustrations, most of which are of celebrity faces, are not just beautiful, they take your attention and keep it. Check out his instagram (@ed_wainaina). He also runs a blog featuring his works.
Musa dwells a lot on abstracts but he also does some portraits. In both of these categories we thought his illustrations were perfectly done. He has a tumblr account showcasing his works but if you prefer Instagram, here is Musa’s handle. (@musaomusi)
You probably know him thanks to his popular comical blog ‘Dear Doris’ but what most do not know about Ian is that he has a background in graphic design and doubles up as a fine artist. Seen the illustrations of ‘thick, yellow-yellow’ women on his site? Well, that is Ian’s work. (@arungaian)
There is a lot that can be said about Maina Wainaina’s amazing talent. However, what strikes you hardest in regard to his talent is his effective use of colour contrast. It is simple and yet divine.
5. Nduta Kariuki
We came across Nduta’s work last year at the BOGOF where she was live painting and we loved her work. The dread locked lass is immensely talented. This is especially the case in regard to her portraits.
