Top five most disturbingly common Craigslist Kenya Personals

We’ve all heard of Craigslist on TV and in movies. The website where people go to make dubious sales, find desperate roommates and meet shady people. A little known fact is that Craigslist has a Kenyan affiliate with a personals section that would make even a character on America Pie cringe. Here are the most common types of ads and examples.

1. Black lady seeking white man

Craig’s list is apparently the best places to meet the Caucasian prince charming who will whisk you away to the country of your dreams if only you agree to have regular sex with him. This mentality is reflected by the most common ads as men and women who are seemingly fed up with Kenyan men and black men in general frequently post there looking for a white/European man (../../they%20actually%20type%20that..jpg) He, of course, has to be rich but age, health and aesthetics rarely ever matter.

2. The overly specific ad

The people who post these have every single aspect for their future significant other mapped out in detail. They seem to believe that their path to true love is via anonymous emails exchanged with a stranger via this dodgy website that has ridiculous security protocols and not through actual dating websites that charge as little as 100 KES.

Only contact me if you are above 6 feet tall, have a job, own a house and car, are Indian, hiv–ve, clean, healthy, like long walks, cuddling, kissing, enjoys to travel, have a degree, are in your late thirties well-endowed and willing to have a friendship that will blossom into a relationship and finally marriage. Don’t even dare try if you don’t believe in true love.

3. Seeking a sugar mummy/daddy

I’ve never really been sure how this differs from prostitution, maybe due to the option factor. The poster is usually in their late teens to mid-twenties and is looking for an older companion (male or female) who would be willing to support them financially in exchange for sexual favors. The option factor? These future paramours all insist that their future sugar mummy or daddy be any age between forty and ninety but MUST be attractive. The strength of their bank account goes without saying.

4. White man seeks African companion.

This is seems pretty innocent but worrying once when you open the various similar posts and read them. It would be near impossible to separate the men who are actually genuinely looking for a companion to take back with them to *insert country of origin* from those who would exploit desperate young men and women for sex. The posts frequently have titles like “Vanilla cream for chocolate dream” and almost always seem to be put up by supposedly stinking rich white business men who despite aforementioned wealth are using Craig’s list to find their future wives.

5. Plain old solicitation.

The world’s oldest profession is online and is on Craigslist. The posters of these make no attempt at disguising what they are and sometimes even have a price tag next to sexual acts. Consider the most disturbing fetish you can think of, it’s probably somewhere on there. Strangely enough most of the time, the ads still specify that they only work with Caucasian males.
