Physical markets

  • Ngara Street fruit and vegetable market- Ngara

A popular destination amongst the Indian residents of the area, this market has an impressive variety of fruit and vegetables. It’s also walking distance from town, which is an added bonus. Ngara street market is one of the most colourful markets in Nairobi and is worth visiting for the friendly atmosphere and vibrant surrounding neighbourhood.

  • Organic Farmer’s Market at the Purdy Arms

  • Marikiti/Wakulima Market:

Located on Haile Selassie Avenue, right next to Muthurwa Matatu Terminus and close to the Machakos Country Bus Station, Marikiti is Kenya’s largest wholesale fresh produce market. The market was built in 1966 and houses at least 10,000 traders with an inventory that includes apples from France, oranges from Tanzania and onions from Uganda.

  • City Park Hawkers Market- Parklands

The sheer scale of this covered market just off Limuru road is overwhelming. It may not be as big as Marikiti but it feels close! City Park Hakwers market is a place to go and get lost for two hours. And if you want to bypass the hassles of markets all together but still want a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, both local and imported, there’s always The Corner Shop (http://www.yaya-centre.com/?portfolio=corner-shop) on the ground floor at Yaya Centre. That’s always been my preferred place to buy fresh produce in Nairobi. And they’re friendly too!

Hello.

Are you by any means connected with organic products market?

I have a group of farmers being trained by Kenya Organic Agriculture Network (KOAN) on organic farming and also practising organic farming on unique vegetables, herbs and fruits. We are doing this in Lari subcounty, Kiambu county.
Our vegetables include raddish, lettuce, managu, carrots and spinach among others. Our fruits include pepino melon (super plant), goose berry, blue berry, straw berry, red berry, tomato trees and bananas.
Our herbs includes persley, rocket, mints, lemon grass, rosemary, aloe vera among others.

We are in the intial stages of our organic farming program and we want to be in touch with the consumers.
