UP Music: New African Releases
Abbas Feat Victoria Kimani- Party Like a Moda
As a follow up to the funky fresh Gimme the Mic, Abbas has dropped another track. Party Like a Moda that features Victoria Kimani, is a stellar song with a mid tempo beat. In it, the veteran rapper showcases his fluid rap skills and witty wordplay while Victoria Kimani complements his rapping with her mellow voice.
Bobby Mapesa & Calvo Mistari- Tuzidi
Calvo Mistari and Bobby Mapesa previously collaborated on Umenimaliza which was a bumping track. The rappers have once again joined forces for another bumping song- Tuzidi. Produced by Dillie, the song is driven by an old school hip hop beat and it’s a dynamic track in which the rappers trade bars on a give and take basis.
Jovi- Bad Music EP
Trap hip hop has been gaining massive popularity and in the process it has spread its influence worldwide. For instance in Kenya, female rapper Njeri created her own brand of Kikuyu trap. Elsewhere in Africa, Cameroonian rapper, Jovi recently dropped a five track EP titled Bad Music that incorporates elements of trap hip hop. Don’t be fooled by the name though, Bad Music is filled with good tracks that are a refreshing departure from conventional trap. It’s an EP that you should definitely listen to. C-Real- You Don’t Wanna Know
C-Real’s You Don’t Wanna Know is an evocative track that you will definitely enjoy if you like introspective music. Accompanied by a thudding drum beat and horns, C-Real raps about the grimmer side of life.
Olamide- Abule Sowo
Olamide had a highly successful 2015 with the release of Eyan Mayweather. The album won him numerous awards and its songs received widespread airplay. And Olamide isn’t about to bring the roller coaster to a halt. His latest song Abule Sowo is an upbeat tune that is certain to be a party favourite.
Davido & Lil Kesh- Yaya Oyoyo
When Davido and Lil Kesh team up you are definitely in for something special. Remember the infectious Shoki? The pair’s new track Yaya Oyoyo doesn’t exactly follow in the same suit as Shoki but it’s a pleasant track with a catchy tune and chorus that may continue to ring in your head for hours on end. It’s definitely worth the listen.
Phyno- Ezege
Phyno finally dropped the much anticipated video for Ezege. It’s a track with sultry models and as always Phyno’s verses are well executed in tandem with the beat. Could it become bigger than 2015’s highly successful Connect. You decide by giving it a listen.
