UP Music: ParkingLotGrass’s Tusk At Hand

So the hippest rockers in Nairobi are at it again. PLG are following hot on the heels of Last Year’s Tragedy, LYT by releasing, not a single, but an entire album, dedicated entirely to the protection of our wildlife, particularly Elephants and all tusked beasts of the savannah. Tusk At Hand comes highly anticipated following PLG’s release of their single Turn Around featuring Nigerian rock queen ClAy, earlier this year. The quality of the track was not only brilliant, but unlike anything we’ve had from Kenyan rockers. Produced by Andromeda, ParkingLotGrass have long been considered the Moses of Kenyan rock. Whether they will take us to the Promised Land – worldwide fame – is a story for another day.

The Band has featured several of the rock scenes best known vocalists (Raphael ‘Ruff’ Sipalla) and instrumentalists (Carrey Francis Ronjey). Funny thing is most of the original members have returned. Dun Muriira (Frontman) has held it down on vocals since Ruff left in 2013, while Nick Wathi has returned as drummer, having taken time off to hone his sound-engineering. Nick is also the band’s producer and is responsible for the absolute perfection that Tusk At Hand might or might not turn out to be.

On guitars are founding members Alistair Gould and Victor ‘Aku’ Chweya. On bass is and always will be (fingers crossed) the one and only Amos Kiptoon.
