What happens when a diva is up against a gentleman in one song cover? You get Victoria Kimani Vs Kagwe Mungai in the “Oleku” cover. Ice Prince is the ultimate judge but here at UP, we give both singers a thumbs up, but since the responsibility falls on us to declare a winner, we must make it clear that this was a close, close call. On one hand we have the sultry and super sexy “Mtoto” singer, Victoria Kimani, who pours her pleasing vocals all over the track like honey on freshly made pancakes on a Sunday morning. It is all kinds of sweet. We hear you girl.

Kagwe Mungai kills his cover by slowing down the tempo and throwing down some smooth lyrics. He raps: “I didn’t come this far to finish second best/I came to save the day/ can’t you see the S on my chest?” This is a sophisticated cover that feels appropriate for a swanky rooftop lounge in the city.

In short, Mungai’s authentic mix of what Prince and Brymo have done and some original additions means that Kimani loses, but only this round. Take your pick.
