Women’s guide to shoe shopping

“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”- Marilyn Monroe

So what exactly are the right shoes? Those little things that go on your feet are probably the most important part of your outfit. And we’re not only saying this from a vain point of view where having the right pair of shoes is literally a life or death situation and Godzilla will come out of nowhere going all King Kong on us - ok maybe we are just a little.

But as much as it comes down to vanity, having the right pair of shoes also comes down to comfort. Shoe shopping should be an art form; women go all Picasso on themselves to buy the right pair of shoes. Since we care so much about the health (and fashion) of your feet, we’ve come up with a shoe-shopping guide for you ladies out there.

  • That whole story about you having to squeeze into smaller shoes is a lie! We always see women suffering with size 5’s when they’re actually a size 7 and a half. What’s the point? It’s obvious that you’re bleeding on the inside (maybe even the outside) so why put yourself through such hardship. First tip for the women: ALWAYS buy shoes that fit. It’s not like you’re buying clothes where you have to cheat yourself that you’re two sizes small just to feel better (Even that is quite silly, but that’s a story for another day).
  • If you can’t walk in 6-inch heels, don’t walk in 6-inch heels. At least in public. You can practice at home so eventually you’ll know how to, but don’t force yourself to go out in public looking like a buckling horse in heels that you obviously cant handle. Buying shoes that you can actually walk in is fundamental we think.
  • Buy shoes for the weather. It’s quite cold and rainy right now so there’s no need to rock some sexy sandals when you’ll just be stuck in the mud (Literally. See what we did there?). Boots are ideal but don’t think they’re restricting. You can get them in so many different lengths and designs so even if you wear different boots for a week straight you’ll still be looking good. P.S. Toi has amazing boots, you should start there if you’re looking for some.
  • There is always an outfit for a pair of shoes but it’s better to buy shoes that can go with more than one outfit. So maybe you found amazing shoes but they’re a crazy colour that can only work if you’re wearing all black. We’re not telling you not to buy them, buy them and rock the hell out of them but be cautious when you are. We don’t want you regretting spending tonnes of money on shoes you can more or less only wear once.
  • Most women don’t really care about the fabric of their shoes but this is quite important. Suede for example is super hard to clean. If you buy suede shoes make sure you keep them isolated in a zip lock bag or anything like that, they tend to pick up dirt easily. Also don’t expose suede to water; it tends to retain water spots.
  • Frugal Franny is not a bad title. If you feel as if a pair of shoes is heavily overpriced, don’t bother. Your instincts are probably right; you might even find the same pair being sold on the road for half the price.
