Nairobi to Host East Africa’s Premiere Whisky Festival

Nairobi will soon be relishing the delights of hosting East Africa’s first of a kind whisky fiesta; The Love Whisky Festival. Unveiled by Kenya Breweries Limited on November 5th, the festival will take place in the course of the month of November in different venues around Nairobi. According to the newly crowned Johnnie Walker Brand Ambassador Ryan Majiwa, The Love Whisky Festival will be Kenya’s largest, liveliest and most exciting whisky tasting and lifestyle show of its kind. “Not only will attendees have the opportunity to experience different whisky at different venues all through November, but there will also be lots of new and exciting things to learn about whisky in general, we believe that the more consumers know about whisky the more likely they are to enjoy it,” said Majiwa.

Some of the select city venues set to host the whisky events are: Tamasha in Hurlingham, K1 Klub House, Nairobi Gymkhana, Tribe Hotel, The Norfolk Hotel, Karen Country Club, Electric Avenue (Bacchus, Havana, Club Island, Black Diamond, Aqua Blu), and New Jack Swing at The Carnivore. “For a longest time,” says Mr. Majiwa, “whisky has been viewed as a more conservative man’s drink, so this is our chance to demonstrate to Kenyans that there are different ways to enjoy whisky and you can enjoy whisky your own way. We would like anyone who enjoys whisky or has wanted to but has never tried whisky to come out to one of the many events and have fun and possibly find a new way to enjoy whisky or a new whisky to enjoy,” he added.

The flourishing middle-class in Kenya coupled by a shift in consumer preferences specifically skewed towards premium brands has been the main motivation behind KBL’s current efforts to vouch for its whisky category. And the range of whiskies on show will be nothing short of remarkable; Scotch whisky leading out with ‘The Empire Builder’; Johnnie Walker Red Label’s - the ‘Party Starter’ J&B; Bushmills’ Irish Whiskey from one of the oldest distilleries in the world, and Single Malt whiskies from the four corners of Scotland. The year is nearly over, so it’s time to unwind and party. As you do it, don’t forget to love some whisky. Don’t forget to drink responsibly.
