Top Ten Tuesdays: Kenyan YouTubers
YouTube is a great and wondrous app, it really is a fantastic way for those who are funny, interesting, both or neither to tell us about their life experiences and cheer us up on days that are gloomy. For the longest time, when you mentioned the word YouTuber you could only get recommendations of mainly Americans. BUT not these days; Kenyans have picked up the pace and the camera and are video blogging (or vlogging as it is more popularly known). When we talk of YouTuber we mean people who are famous or known because of their YouTube channel, therefore we will not mention any media personalities who were previously on TV or radio and now have a YouTube channel.
This list is in no particular order, no ranking of one channel over any other.
Elodie’s YouTube channel is set in the conventional confessional style, she does videos about her life every week or so, she has a great following on YouTube and fans wait eagerly for her videos. Her videos range from make up tips, to stories about her life and her boyfriend she lets fans into her life.
In her latest video, she fawns over her February fashion haul:
Wanjiru Njiru is a recent Kenyan graduate and seeks to give her fellow young graduates about how to survive the ups and downs of life. She’s a newcomer to the YouTubing scene but is a good addition to the scene. Not only are her videos entertaining, but most of them are also very thought-provoking.
In this video, the self-proclaimed Tarma-Kings give you a few tips on how to survive the job-hunt.
Dramatic Funatic’s Youtube channels main focus is comedy and comedic skits. His aim when he first started was to give fans a video per week but as many YouTubers can tell you, the moment you say this, the videos kind of just never materialize. He’s a hilarious character whose skits are a refreshing experience.
We just couldn’t stop laughing at this one!
4. Angel Lately
Angel Lately’s YouTube channel is a mix and match of many topics under the sun, her main focus though is make up. She gives her viewers tips and hacks on how she does her make-up routine, and of course she shares parts of her life with her viewers, her struggles and how she overcomes them. She’s quite an interesting vlogger and everyone should make a note to subscribe to her channel.
Her perfume collection video is super-informative!
5. Master Jezi
A veteran on the blogging scene, Master Jezi’s channel is a one stop shop for every nerd in Kenya. The name of the channel may keep changing, but the essence of the channel is the same: gaming. These two vloggers have been informing the masses on the ins and outs of gaming, doing game reviews and everything else in between.
In this short clip, he shares his thoughts on the upcoming Batman vs Superman battle.
6. George Kagwe
Another comedy sketcher on the scene, George Kagwe takes current political issues and satirizes them. His comedic take on current topics keeps one informed and entertained.
A true testament to the hilarity of his channel is in this spoof video on the ongoing Uber vs. Taxi Wars.
7. Y We Do It
This YouTube channel is set up more in the format of a TV talk show, hosted by the effervescent Abigail Arunga and her hilarious co host. The show focus on current topics online and in the news. They dissect what is happening around us in the world, what should happen and give their thoughts and their views on it.
In this clip, they discuss bribery, Netflix’s woes in the country as well as the Zuku-DSTV problem.
8. v3rcity
These two YouTubers mainly cover events that happen in and around Nairobi, they give you the insight on why one needs to go to some events. Their hilarious skits will have you hooked to the channel ASAP.
A while ago, Snapchat featured Nairobi, but didn’t seem to cover highlights of the capital very thoroughly. What the folks at V3rcity did was compile a video of better and more entertaining snaps that could have captured the Nairobi essence better.
This style maven has been on the scene for quite a while now, she is a natural hair guru and natural skin products. She gives her viewers how to create products at home and how to maintain and upkeep their natural hair.
Albeit a bit old, this video of her oil cleansing method is forever relevant.
10. Ccbobby20
She describes her channel as vlogging videos on things that others consider trivial in life. She mainly focuses on her life experiences and what goes on in her daily life.
In this clip, she gives law students tips on how to survive law school!
Honourable Mentions
Another gaming channel, another channel that has constantly changed it’s name Nerd Side focuses on gaming and gamers interests.
Although Lyra is mainly a photographer, every once in awhile she graces her YouTube subscribers with a fun and creative video.
Mainly known as a fashion blogger, Nancie every so often graces her multitudes of fans with videos of her amazing makeup routines.
The most honourable mention of all. We received a barrage of messages and tweets from our readers who felt that we had left out one of the biggest Kenyan YouTube stars from our list. With 933 subscribers to his channel and 101,635 views, Levis Ryan definitely seems to have gathered a strong and loyal following, and we see why. His videos and quirky and hilarious, and the quality is amazing!

David Munga says:
A kenyan youtuber list without Levis Ryan. What a travesty!!! lol…maybe include embeds to their videos next time.
Olivia Kidula says:
Hey David! We’re so sorry we left him out, but we’ve corrected the slight! We’ve also added the embeds to our favourite videos as well, thanks so much for your feedback!
EJ slim says:
I can’t believe we’re complaining about the same thing. I ran a campaign for him on Twitter :-D. Also follow me @RiddleElvis
David Munga says:
Yo! We’ve gotta stan for our people you know. #TeamInternet all the way.
Jay Mwangi says:
but it’s great that UP Magazine is recognizing kenyan youtubers, I had such a hard time trying to find the ones i’m subscribed to. and yes i agree with you, leaving out levis is a ‘TRAVESTY’ :-D. I feel like he’s used that word a couple of times in his videos. Is that what inspired it?
Jush says:
How is Master Jezi in this list? tried going through his videos, BORING!!!!!!!!!
Jay Mwangi says:
RIGHT? This list is mostly flawed. whyyyy are some of these guys on here…some havent posted on their channels in ages and others down right SUCK!!!
Jay Mwangi says:
Most these people don’t even upload regularly which makes me question why they made the top 10 list in the 1st place. Some have like 10 videos and they’re on here, smdh. Just checked out y do we do it…like them, didn’t know they existed before this article. Elodie Zone n Levis Ryan are kenyan youtube royalty though. #Levodie. Oh I love Angel too. She’s so charming. I don’t care for beauty channels but I watch all her videos 100%.
