Weekend Wish List

Monday is gone, Tuesday is officially a blur and Wednesday; Wednesday is here to welcome the weekend. A weekend isn’t much of a weekend if you have no plans. That’s why we have the weekend wish list to help you sort that out. Here is a list of events going down this weekend;

Thursday 14th
Roots International presents Thursday Nite Live featuring Teto Tutuma

Roots international
Watching Teto Tutuma perform live is a treat for any lover of Contemporary music. One of his songs ‘Iyie Ake’ sung in Maasai was recorded in the Spotlight on Kenyan Music Vol. 2 CD compilation, an intiative by the Alliance Francoise de Nairobi that promotes Kenyan music of traditional origin.

Teto Tutuma has released his second album, ‘Nosim Ali’ and the Purple warriors band, introducing their definitive sound to audiences around Kenya. More information on this week’s Thursday Nite Live can be found here.

On Thursday evening, from 9pm through 3am, Dj 1tyme, the all round entertainer will be performing at Ebony Lounge. He will be bringing with him a set of classics.

Phoenix records will also be in the house; showcasing its new material and new music for 2015.

Friday 15th
Santuri Society Sessions,

Santuri Safari facilitates collaborations between musicians, DJs and electronic music producers. What started as community effort to create a platform for underground music in Dar es Saalam, Tanzania in 2014 has expanded to the rest of East Africa and the UK.

In addition to the innovation, Santuri Sessions also see a select group of artists share samples of their works with a live audience.

The Santuri Society session at The Bus, Muthithi Rd will go from 5pm to 2am.

Charges; KShs 500 at the gate.

German Week Nairobi

From the 15th to the 23rd May, Nairobi will be the venue of German week. The week will mainly focus on German culture as well as activities of German organizations in the close partnership between Germany and Kenya.

Events during the German week will range from music concerts, exhibitions, sports tournaments, German cuisine and films. The activities will be aiming to represent the whole spectrum of Germany in Kenya.

Saturday 16th
Pop-up Paint Nairobi

The next edition of Pop-up Paint Nairobi will be going down this Saturday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Karura Forest.
There will be a still life scene set-up, an expressive Arts session and space for attendees to work on ground/individual projects or just hang out.

Charges: KShs 2000. (Caters for entrance and materials)

Opening of Ink & Pixels – The Wild and Wondorous Tale of Kenyan Comics

The ‘Ink & Pixels – The Wild and Wondorous Tale of Kenyan Comics’ exhibit will open on Saturday 8pm at the Goethe Institut. The exhibition will feature the works of legendary cartoonists Terry Hirst, Maddo and Gado alongside recent sesnsations like Shujaaz, Roba amongst others.

The exhibition is curated by Chief Nyamweya and Msanii Kimani wa Wanjiru.

The exhibition will last from 18th to the 26th of May, 1.00pm to 6.00pm.

Fatuma’s Voice

Fatuma’s Voice is a weekly interactive session with a huge focus on poetry. This Saturday’s theme is #UnwantedPregnancy.

The event shall see members discuss the topic , with entertainment from local poets and budding musicians.

Fatuma’s Voice starts at 5pm and runs till 8pm.
Charges: 100.

‘The Yacoubian Building’ Film Screening After Party

This Saturday, Djs Sesi, Sirloin and Panik alias Noise on Demand will be entertaining revelers at the after party of the License to Kill Film Series screening of Egyptian film ‘ The Yacoubian Building’.

Doors open at 6pm with the screening of the film lasting from 8pm to 10pm. The after party will start at 10pm and go on till 2am.
Charges; KShs 500 at the door.

Fret Venture: Time Through Music

This is a concert by guitarists for guitarists and other instrumentalists. Guitar music played will be from various genres, as arranged by Manaseh Uzele and performed by his students. See details on the FB Event Page.
