For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf is written by American playwright, Ntozake Shange, and is a collection of “choreopoems” exploring the challenges that African American women have faced including: rape, abandonment, abortion and other subjects. Each poem emodies a female character only known by colour: “Lady in Yellow”, “Lady in Purple,” e.t.c.
