When a bar chooses to boastAt night Westlands stirs awake like a sleeping giant, it heaves and breathes. You can actually feel the ground shift with energy when the midnight approaches.
Smack in the middle of the L-shaped entertainment strip is Havana. The politics of bars in Westlands is a complicated one. The one question all those bars lined up along the strip ask themselves is: what new fair are we offering? The answer has to be rhetorical.
So what does Havana sell that, say, it’s immediate neighbour, Bacchus, doesn’t sell? The answer is in the name; Havana sells Havana. It sells Cuba.
And to sell Cuba Havana has to boast. It boasts of the best Latin style cocktail bar with mellow lighting. It boasts of the best mojitos in town. It boasts of the best cosmopolitan crowd in town, and you will find them on their busiest nights, spilled outside the entrance, carrying their drinks and making chatter.
Ultimately it’s the electricity that zaps through the spine of this bar. Oh well, like I said at the beginning, it gets rhetoric very quickly. But ultimately, it’s simpler to get a mojito at Havana than answers. |
