There’s a time of day in every office where you can see the energy start to slump, the fingers get slower moving across the keyboard and a general lethargy bogs down the air. Coffee is often well in order at this time of day but this chilly Tuesday the UP team was saved by the sweeties at Sugarpie cupcakes! After tasting their delights during our Associate Editor’s birthday we were more than ready to tuck in and enjoy a little sugar and spice to pep up our day! Fresh from the bakery we received a delicious mix of flavours (editor’s note, also picked up some delicious Chakula nut butters for home!) that had the office in fits of giggles in no time.
Sugarpie was founded in 2014 by an American expat, Sandra Zhao, who is an avid desert lover but couldn’t find anything to satisfy her sweet tooth, so she combined her experience in start ups with this love of baking to create Sugarpie. As Sandra says “We want to make products that are really good in every sense of the word,” and this is evident in both the quality of the cupcakes and also in the company’s mission to provide employment opportunities.
Sugarpie mostly does deliveries but also has a small kiosk in Junction Mall. From the bakery to your door, Sugarpie offers cupcakes, specialty cakes, baking accessories and nut butters. They’ve also just introduced cookies and are expanding the range soon. Many of their products are sourced organic, fair trade and locally using no additives, artificial flavours or colours - everything is baked fresh every day.
The UP team tried banana and caramel buttercream, carrot cake with cream cheese and the red velvet - but favourite of all was the dark chocolate with mocha buttercream. Thank you Sugarpie for making such goodies - good in every sense of the word!
