Penny Winter’s jewellery has adorned a long list of the rich and famous: Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Helena Christensen, Princess Caroline, Anna Friel, Kaitlin Jenner, Christina Aguilera and Viola Davis.
Instantly recognisable in Penny’s jewellery are her origins and dreams. African bone has been shaped into cuffs and rings then encrusted with sparkling stones and semi-precious rocks. Bold beads with leather, tassle, charms and various metals are strung into talismans, worry beads and swinging ropes with opalescent colours that pick up the light and throw it in all directions.
Every piece is uniquely approached, depending on its shape and the quality of the natural stone, which is crafted by her team in a workshop in Karen. This makes each item’s design pure and original, different from any other. Yet for something so time consuming and so carefully selected, reasonably priced.
Born in Belfast, Penny was already well traveled when she fell in love with Africa and in particular Kenya and its people. She spends as much time as she can in Lamu to indulge her love of sailing and from where she has drawn much inspiration.
