It’s shameful to imagine that no one has ever thought of the flip side of the rap supremacy coin, ‘Who is Queen?’.
Because let’s face it the industry has grown to accommodate more and more women and we have some pretty tough femcees in Kenya, some of them more talented than even their male counterparts.
Mdundo has come up with their very own list of the top 10 femcees in the country.
Rap skills, wordplay and delivery are all taken into consideration, but most of all what makes the artist the complete femcee deserved of the title ‘Queen’.
- Pizo Dizo
From the way she raps, down to her rhymes one would say she’s the reincarnation of the late Lady S, one of the meanest Kenyans femcees to get behind the mic.
What she does is almost like a reverse love song. In most of her songs just like Lady S, she bashes men, and going by some of her lines… “Ata mandazi surwa hauwezi nibuyia…Kujiskia asali na Motorola 113”,one would not like to be on the receiving end of those punchlines.
Pizo Dizo is no doubt a very talented rapper who knows very well how to play with words and how to deliver them in the right way.
However, the style of music that she does (Genge rap) may be way past it’s time, she needs to modernize if she’s going to stay relevant.
- Dee
Dee is a little known female Gospel rapper, which in this industry is such a rare combination. And though Dee may not constantly be on airplay there’s no denying that she’s quite a gifted talent.
She became especially popular after her song Wannabe featuring Holy Dave in which she showed that she could write as well as deliver, Gospel or not.
Her only downside is that she lacks enough content to get her name out there and can be easily forgettable.
- Njeri
With her first track she managed to do one thing that very few rappers can manage- make a modern hit rap song in 90 percent in a local dialect.
That’s right, I’m talking about her breakout song Nduta which was on constant replay on most radio stations and managed to catch many off guard by how infectious it was.
Immediately people were comparing her to Biashara hit maker Stella Mwangi, so much so that the veteran femcee decided to take her under her wing.
They even have a song out together dubbed Miti Ni Dawa which like her first song is a mix of both Kikuyu and English a difficult combination to make work but because the two are gifted in both delivery and word play worked quite well.
She’s only number 8 for me because she has yet to get enough content out there, but one can tell she has a bright future in Hiphop.

UGANDA: Eddy Kenzo to sing for Obama
Eddy Kenzo is riding on a crest yet again if news that the “Sitya Loss” star will sing for Barack H. Obama is anything to go by.
He’s been invited to take part in the forthcoming South by Southwest (SXSW) that will take part in the United States where President Obama and Michelle Obama are both expected to grace the event. SXSW is a yearly set of film, interactive media, music festivals and conferences.
