Fundii Centre For The Arts
Join us for some late night art on the First Thursday of each month. From 6:00PM, Fundii Centre For The Arts will host their first annual Access Art geared towards discovering new talent and giving artists a platform to showcase their work. Partnering with Le Decanter and Brown’s Cheese, there will be a wine and cheese tasting.
Tickets are KES 2,000 – includes 3 glasses of wine and cheese selection. Proceeds will go to People of Africa International Foundation (NGO).

Blindfolded: Nairobi Series - An Exhibition by Gadi Ramadhani

BlindFolded is an exhibition of monoprints by the Tanzanian artist Gadi Ramadhani. Gadi shows his latest work developed during his artistic residence at the GoDown Arts Centre. The ‘BlindFolded’ series expresses his anxiety over the culture of silence present in the African society. Inspired by the Kenyan environment, from social to political events, Gadi’s figurative works take a satirical look at the he hypocritical culture in our society of ‘responsible citizens’.
After Nairobi, Gadi will continue his ‘BlindFolded’ journey to Lusaka, Harare and Gaborone, adding new works influenced by the local context in each city to this series.

Exhibition Opening: There Are Worlds Out There They Never Told You About by Jackie Karuti

The exhibition ‘There Are Worlds Out There They Never Told You About’ by Jackie Karuti elaborately introduces the audience to her imagined worlds, seemingly set in a galactic and underwater universe. It is a selection from Karuti’s latest work, an impressive collection of drawings, installations, videos, animations and text which depict evidence of other worlds in space, among the stars and perhaps even in the ocean.
There exists a myth about an underwater civilization descended from slaves thrown overboard during the middle passage from Africa to the Americas. Where do people who die away from ‘home’ go?What would it mean to migrate or run away to worlds that exist in our imagination? And if the present exists in a way that is not necessarily one in which you have agency, can you perhaps fly away to another time and space?

In this thrilling drama written and directed by Kigondu Martin, Jimmy (Bilal Wanjau) is back from Kamiti prison and has to live at his son’s place – looking to start afresh and mend their relationship. Junior (Kena Muigai) doesn’t really like his father, and the fact that Junior’s girlfriend Patricia (Mildred Sakina) might have some disturbing connection to his father’s past is a ticking time bomb. All this is set on the backdrop of – by chance (or not) key political assassinations / extrajudicial killings connected to Jimmy’s past as a cop. What happens at dusk? What happens before the night unmasks their truths? Where will the guns point?

It was founded in 2014 by Wanayran-Wanny Angerer, a world renowned Honduran Latin Jazz performer. Cultural Stopovers is a Wanny Angerer Moving Cultures initiative to make the variety and wealth of Nairobi’s cultural and artistic initiatives visible.
The World Music Concert will feature Kenyanboyschoir Boyschoirofkenya, Cara M Smith & Global Youth Groove Music Therapy Initiative + Wanny Angerer in Moving Cultures.
There will be a cash bar by Sabor Espanyol Ltd. Attendees can make a KES 2,000 donation that will benefit Tumshangilieni Mtoto/Shangilia Kenya & Kibera Annual Music Festival.

17th Edition: Lusophone Film Festival

The 17th edition of the Lusophone Film Fest Nairobi is finally here. The Lusophone Film Fest is a showcase of the diversity of film production in the eight Portuguese-speaking countries spread across 4 continents. The festival presents multiple works (documentaries, animations, shorts and feature films), in sessions of several films from the different countries.
From 5:00PM we will screen our first film from Macau (China) spoken in the Macanese patois mixing Portuguese, Malaysian and Cantonese. We will also screen two documentaries, from Angola and Guinea-Bissau.
