The UP office was rather serious this Tuesday afternoon. It was slightly after noon and everyone was working at their desks, with the occasional rumbling of a stomach cutting through the usual silence. It was then a delightful surprise when Ki.chen delivered two large packages of food to the office. The spicy aroma hung heavily in the air and we all couldn’t wait to get see what goodies had been brought for us.
Ki.chen is a relatively new company that delivers delicious and affordable lunch straight to your doorstep or office.
Following rave reviews by several food bloggers, we were excited to see their logo, and even more so by their packaging. The presentation is very neat - the food is packaged in non-microwavable plastic containers.
We were blessed with two sandwiches, one which was vegetarian. They also provided us with teriyaki flavoured tofu, and spicy Chinese chicken wings with stir fried rice. As the in-house vegetarian, I had the avocado, feta & pesto sandwich. This was a marvelling Californian masterpiece. It was rich with creamy avocado slices, home made pesto, scattered sun-dried tomato, Sirimon feta marinated in lemon and oregano. All neatly arranged in the finest dark multi-grain bread. As simple as this goodness sounds, it was full- flavoured and complex.
Olivia had the spicy chicken wings but they weren’t as spicy as she’d expected. The wings were small and didn’t have a lot of meat on the bone, but the accompanying sauce was delicious, packed with rich Chinese flavours making it go brilliantly with the rice.
We’ll definitely be ordering from here again. The Ki.chen is gourmet food without a hefty price tag! It is the perfect epitome for fresh tasty meals and a quick delivery lunch at the office, and with the right size of portion to keep you going for the rest of the day. They have an exciting menu that caters to all diets in a simple price range of between KES 400 and 600.
