There are only a few things that get a writer giddy with excitement. Quite obviously getting published and winning a literary award rank highly. However, in my book, attending a literary festival combines both joys because it is a window into a possible future in which one is a published and award-winning author!
And as literary festivals go, the 2011 Storymoja Hay Festival is way up there. It revered literature and the art of reading and brought in a superb crop of writers. While nipping in and out of the workshops and chilling out at the UP Lounge, I found myself constantly turning to my cell phone to share the thoughts and vibes expressed at the festival to all and sundry.
Twitter was the best tool for this because one could follow the interesting trending topics from within the festival; the lucrative #IWillBe tweets, to the #BenOkri quotes and the general good times enjoyed at the fest expressed via #HayFestKe.
Shifting through the hundreds of tweets send out on the day, here are some of the best.
