There are few places in this city where one can be real. I mean a place where a person can speak English with a strong accent and not attract disapproving stares. Or dress in a favorite yellow and purple long dress without fearing arrest by the “Friday Magazine” fashion cop. Yet, it is the illusory that makes the city interesting, if not pretty. If Nairobi was too real it would collapse to dull concrete structures, silence and a foul smell. |
