CHOCOLATE CITY LISTENING PARTY

During the Kenya International Film Festival, top Nigerian label Chocolate City Records held a stylish listening party for its artists at the swanky Skylux Lounge in Westlands, Nairobi. The listening party was organized by the local branch of the Lagos-based Mtech Communications led by Ike Anoke. It was a pretty quiet Tuesday evening but hundreds of fashionable guests trickled into Skylux to see the stars that have been making Kenyans dance for years. Our people are extremely fond of Nigerian film and music, and that has created a very good cultural relationship between the two countries.

Chocolate City is the home to many chart-busting Nigerian artists such as MI, Brymo, Jesse Jagz and the “Oleku” chart toppers, Ice Prince Zamani. Skylux was filled to capacity with top celebrities, including artists, DJs, diplomats and film stars. Notable personalities were: the Nigerian Ambassador to Kenya, doctor Chijioke Wilcox Wigwe; actress Genevieve Nnaji; boomba star Maurya; radio host Angela Angwenyi; singer Naicon; actor Ramsey Noah, Madtraxx; music sensation Camp Mulla; singer Avril; the Big Brother Africa stars such as Malawian Lomwe; and Botswana’s Zeus, among many other guests.

As everyone mingled and networked, DJ Crème treated them to an exclusive listening session of all Chocolate City artists’ albums. Of course the evening did not end without any performances. The night’s MC, Adelle from One FM, invited artists Ice Prince Zamani, Camp Mulla and Zeus on stage to showcase their music. To the surprise of sitting guests this was a rare treat as they got to enjoy their favorite stars perform live for free. Each attendee went home with a precious album by a Chocolate City artist.

All in all, the evening was well worth it; the listening party provided both great encouragement to Nairobi-based artists and great exposure for those serious about their music.
