Disco Boutiq at The Alchemist

Disco Boutiq is a new addition to The Alchemist’s music events line up, throwing the spotlight on African Dance Music with Live and DJ Acts. The first installation features Batida, Zelalem and Disco Vumbi. Batida mixes 1970s Angolan tracks with EDM while keeping the stage vibrant with a mix of dance, poetry, photography and video. Zelalem is a well known DJ in Nairobi who is a beloved regular at the Alchemist, and Disco Vumbi is a live band playing a new form of Kenyan Dance Music that mixes street and a little something disco.
For those who like to move it to Afro-fusion beats this is not an event you want to miss, especially since it will get you warmed up for UP LIVE 5’s Afro Disco Explosion on the 17th of the month.
DISCO BOUTIQ is a new series of events that will mainly focus on promoting a wide variety of old and new African Dance Music through Live and DJ Acts. Our events aim to feature Artists and Music that we rarely get a chance to hear and see.
BATIDA is the brainchild of Angolan/ Portuguese Pedro Coquenão. A distinctly modern and vibrant project with its feet firmly rooted in the past, Batida combine samples from old 1970s Angolan tracks with modern electronic dance music. Music is the starting point but through dance, poetry, photography and video, Batida expands, taking in politics and social commentary but always bringing the party.
ZELALEM is one of Nairobi’s sought after eclectic DJs who’s well-known for his wide array of African Music selection.
DISCO VUMBI is a band that plays a fresh new form of Kenyan Dance Music created by one of Kenya’s newest innovative producer, Alai K, an artist recognized for his Hip Hop and Afro Fusion projects, will take you back to Kenya’s street disco-esque ways
