Kenyan personality hot in Hollywood You read it first here: Fareed Khimani, top X FM radio personality, has just landed a role in a major Hollywood blockbuster. He’ll star alongside Will Smith and Scarlett Johanssen in a film about a cricket player who comes to America on a championship tour, learns the rules of baseball and turns into one of the major leagues’ greatest batmen. “Little Master” starts shooting this June in India, will move to Vancouver for interiors and then wrap in Syracuse, New York, in December.
Khimani was one of thousands to audition via YouTube, and was singled out by co-star and producer Will Smith. When reached for a comment, Khimani stated, “This is a great opportunity for me. I would have never really tried had my mom not sent my show reel to the production company.
When Will called, I was like, ‘Yeah, right!’ But when he flew me out to Los Angeles last month, it was surreal.” He went on to say, “You know, I grew up playing baseball and not cricket, so that was a cool thing for me.” Khimani is already looking for a home in New York to rent for the period he is on location. He’s also planning to move his entire family there throughout the shooting of “Little Master”.
The film is being helmed by “Transformers” director Michael Bay and will premiere in June 2013. An in-depth snapshot of the storyline: “A cricketer, Rajesh Bipin Shah (Khimani), is heading into the twilight of his career. He tries one last time to glean some glory before it’s too late. The decorated cricketer takes a final tour of North America and becomes infatuated by the game of baseball.
Shah heads to the batting cages and catches the eye of the assistant coach for the Yankees, John Edwards (Smith). A friendship ensues as Edwards decides to cash in on the cricketing master’s “batman” talents. The rest, as they say, is sports history.” You can try to reach Fareed Khimani at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
